BEFORE:
For longer than I can remember, I have loved traveling, especially by plane. What kid doesn’t love to travel? But the destination has always been the second-best part. The first-best? Getting there. It all began with the planes. One of my earliest travel memories is San Francisco. My family would stay in hotels that lined the Bay and had a direct view of the airport runways. I would stand by the window for hours to watch the planes take off and land. One flight home, a man told me we were flying an Airbus. I was confused, but for years after that, I’d ask my dad, “Is this an Airbus?” Sometimes he replied yes. Other times, “Nope. It’s a Boeing.”
“What’s a Boeing?”
“A different kind of plane.”
Then more questions arose: “Why is flying West to East faster than the other way around?” Tailwinds and headwinds. As I got older, I gained an appreciation for the steps leading up to my travels: booking flights, planning activities, packing my bags. I realized that while I enjoy the landing place, I appreciate the process more.
AFTER:
One of my most vivid memories is something most would consider exceedingly mundane: sitting at the window in the San Francisco airport on a family trip, watching planes take off and land. A Boeing 747. An A380. A CRJ200. What interested me the most was not just the mere sight of them but the discovery of all the intricate mechanisms - the stabilizers, ailerons, and anti-shock bodies - that made them go. I love to travel, but not for the reasons most people find travel interesting. For me, it is not about the destination, at least not primarily. It is about the process - the fine details of figuring out what to pack, where to stay, and how to get there.

PHILOSOPHY
“I believe in letting the writer’s true voice shine through. Everyone has a great story in them somewhere. They just need a little help bringing that story to life.
The singular most neglected yet most distinguishing component of the personal statement is reflection. Quality reflection is what separates the wheat from the chaff. It’s rare to find, because it’s difficult to do right. It takes a lot of digging.
Writing truly high quality essays requires a mature perspective to bring out the elements of the narrative that demonstrate real growth in the writer’s character–how did the writer become more independent, responsible, and resilient? Every sentence should say something meaningful about the writer."
